Royal Enfield launches Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 in India

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 265,000, and the Interceptor 650 starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 250,000.

Technical Specifications:
  • Both the new bikes are retro styled models. While the Continental GT 650 is a cafe racer — almost identical to the now phased out single-cylinder Continental GT 535 — the Interceptor 650 is a modern classic roadster that derives inspiration from the 60’s Royal Enfield Interceptor.

Design:
  • Both RE 650 motorcycles have telescopic front forks and twin spring gas-charged suspension system at the rear. Braking system has 320mm disc at the front and 240mm disc at the rear. Both motorcycles come with Bosch dual-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), which is offered as standard.

Engine:
  • Powering both the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 is a new 649 cc, air and oil cooled, parallel-twin engine that churns out 47 bhp at 7250 rpm and develops 52 Nm of peak torque at 5250 rpm.. About 80 per cent of the torque is available from 2500 rpm and a flat torque curve results in ample power all the way till about 6000 rpm. Sending power to the rear wheels is a 6-speed gearbox that comes with a slipper clutch, for a lighter lever operation. The bikes are capable of speeds in excess of 160 kmph

Colors:
  • The Interceptor 650 will be available in six colors—Orange Crush, Mark Three Black, Silver Spectre, Ravishing Red, Baker Express White & Red, and Glitter & Dust Chrome. The paint schemes for the Continental GT are Black Magic, Ventura Blue, Dr Mayhem Grey & Black, Ice Queen White and Mister Clean Chrome.

Niche bike maker Royal Enfield today launched a new range of its popular model Thunderbird – Thunderbird 500X  price at Rs 1,98,878 and Thunderbird 350X price at Rs 1,56,849 (ex-showroom Delhi), respectively.
Powered by a single cylinder, air cooled 499 cc engine, the Thunderbird 500X generates 41.3 Nm torque at 4000 rpm.
Thunderbird 350X, on the other hand, comes with a single cylinder, air cooled, twin-spark, 346cc engine which generates a maximum torque of 28 Nm at 4000 rpm.
“The key selling point is that these are thunderbirds with a custom inspired look as a lot of people buy thunderbird and further customise it.
We have now given an already customised bike to a certain level,” Royal Enfield President Rudratej Singh said.
He further said the whole objective is to inject fresh thinking into the Thunderbird range which has become a definite choice for some section of people.
The two-wheeler division of Eicher Motors had launched Thunderbird in 2002 popularly known as highway cruiser and the new launches are factory-built customised bikes with a blacked out theme.
“Specifically, we have a target with regard to how many test rides we give and how many people visit our stores for Thunderbird,” Singh said.
With regard to exports, he said the focus first will be in India and then these bikes will be made available wherever Thunderbird is present across the world.
“First we’ll make sure our distribution reach in India is full but very soon in a few months we will be splitting into places where thunderbird in other markets is available,” he said.
Bookings have been opened from today at Royal Enfield stores across major cities.
