Samsung Galaxy J8 Review: Premium midrange device with good battery, camera

The Galaxy J8 is primarily a battery-and-camera-centric smartphone with an average processor capable of handling only day-to-day tasks with ease.

Technology News: The latest in its line-up is the Galaxy J8 smartphone, a modern day smartphone with a great build, big super AMOLED screen, dual rear cameras and powerful battery. The Galaxy J8 seems to be a heavy contender in midrange smartphone segment, at least in terms of specifications and features. However, does it perform equally well in real life scenarios? Let’s find out:

Design and Build Quality: In the front, the phone sports a 6-inch (18.5:9 aspect ratio) super AMOLED screen of HD+ resolution. The screen is touted as an infinity screen, which is a fancy name mostly used for curved screens with no bezels on two sides found in Samsung's premium devices. But in reality, this phone has bezels around the screen. These bezels are relatively slim, and therefore add to the overall design quotient while providing an immersive viewing experience.

On the back, there is a dual camera set-up placed vertically in the middle, along with an LED flash and a fingerprint sensor. The power button is on the right side of the frame, whereas the volume rocker keys are on the left side. At the bottom, there is a micro-USB charging port, along with the 3.5mm audio output port.

Display: The Galaxy J8 6-inch super AMOLED screen is bright, and works well under direct sunlight or bright streetlights. However, the screen resolution is 1480 x 720 pixels, i.e. HD+, making the screen look pixelated at times. The 6-inch panel looks vivid and has saturated colours, which looks great while watching multimedia content or playing games.

Battery: With a 3,500 mAh battery, the phone manages to go for more than a day on normal usage. That is due to an HD+ resolution screen and power-efficient Qualcomm processor. Even with heavy usage and active internet connection all the time, the phone easily sails through one full day.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with S-Pen to launch on August 9: Things to know

In a series of teaser videos posted on Twitter, Samsung hinted that the Galaxy Note 9 would have a bigger capacity battery, ample internal storage and better internet connectivity.

 

Technology News : South Korean electronics giant Samsung is gearing up for the launch of the Galaxy Note 9 on August 9. Purported details of the upcoming Note-series flagship smartphone with S-Pen for digital inking capabilities has been making rounds on the web. However, the latest piece of information has come from the company’s official social media channels where Samsung posted a series of teaser videos hinting that the phone would have a bigger capacity battery, ample internal storage and better internet connectivity.

In the first teaser video shared on July 26 on Twitter, the company showed an iPhone-like user interface with a low battery message popping up forcing user to lower brightness, disable WiFi and GPS, and close the recently opened apps to save some power. The tweet carries a message, “On August 9 2018, power will no longer be a problem” hinting that the Note 9 would pack a bigger capacity battery. The Galaxy Note 9 is rumoured to come with a 4,000 mAh battery, which would be good 700 mAh more than its predecessor and 500 more than the Galaxy S9+.

The next teaser video shared on July 27 focusses on internal storage issues. The video shows a user trying to download a presentation, but could not due to no internal storage. To free up some space, user starts deleting memories in the form of videos and photographs and also removes apps to make room for new download. The teaser video comes with a message, “From August 9 2018 onwards, you won't have to choose” hinting that the Note 9 come with higher storage options. The phone is reported to get 256GB and 512GB internal storage variants, along with 64GB and 128GB models.

The last video teaser focusses on phone’s internet connectivity highlighting how a sluggish phone can hamper overall internet speed. The video teaser shows user trying to send a file to someone but couldn’t upload the file even after switching between 4G and WiFi, and closing background processes access to data connection. The video has been shared with a message, “Time for a change of pace,” hinting that the Note 9 would feature some sort of enhancement to improve internet speed. Samsung Galaxy A6 specifications

The Galaxy A6 sports a 5.6-inch super AMOLED HD Plus screen in 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone features a 16-megapixel camera unit on the front and back with of f/1.9 and f/1.7 aperture, respectively and LED flash light. It is powered by an octa-core processor clocked to operate at a maximum frequency of 1.6 GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage options. The phone also supports storage expansion using microSD card slot, which can take up to 256GB cards.

The A6 boasts a 3,000 mAh battery and boots Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

The Galaxy A6 Plus, on the other hand, sports a 6-inch super AMOLED fullHD Plus screen in 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Unlike the A6, the A6 Plus sports a dual rear camera setup on the rear featuring a 16MP primary sensor of f/1.7 aperture mated with a 5 MP sensor of f/1.9 aperture size. On the front, there is a 24 MP sensor of f/1.9 aperture for the selfies. Like Galaxy A6, there is a dedicated LED flashlight on the front and back. The is powered by an octa-core processor clocked to operate at a maximum frequency f 1.8 GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage options. The phone also supports storage expansion using microSD card slot, which can take up to 256GB cards.

The phone is powered by a 3,500 mAh battery and boots Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. Both phones support LTE Cat.6 with 2CA, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC (select markets), GPS, Glonass, and BeiDou.

The phones will be available in black, gold, blue, and Lavender from early May onwards in select European, Asian and Latin American markets, before rolling out globally to additional markets throughout South Korea, Africa and China.

The Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro is the younger sibling of the Galaxy C9 Pro, another midrange flagship smartphone. The camera-centric smartphone sports midrange specifications and features. Being a Galaxy C-series device, it aimed at the value-for-money proposition. However, priced under Rs 30,000, the phone rivals the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5 – both sporting top-notch innards and considered premium flagships.

Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro Specifications: Talking of specifications, the Galaxy C7 Pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 system-on-chip (SoC), which is an octa-core processor with a maximum frequency of 2.2GHz. The processor is no powerhouse. However, it is not too bad, given that the Galaxy C7 Pro is a mid-range device with high ambitions; the processor is good for day-to-day tasks and still holds some power to process a few heavy-duty jobs.

The Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro offers 64 GB of internal memory and 4 GB of RAM. And, if you find 64 GB of internal memory less for your data, there is also the option of extending the memory to up to 256 GB using a microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro Design: In terms of design, The Galaxy C7 Pro features a metallic body, with a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass that covers almost the entire front. On the front, the side bezels around the display are almost negligible, but the top and bottom bezels are too big – even odd. The huge top and bottom bezels do bring down the overall design quotient of the device.
On the back, the Galaxy C7 Pro sports a primary camera module assisted with dual-tone flash, and the ‘Samsung’ label in the middle of the smartphone. Interesting to note on the back of the device is how the company has worked on the antenna lines to integrate them in the design, making them part of the overall aesthetics. The camera rim protrudes from the body but does not damage the design tone of the handset.

Samsung Galaxy S8 launched in burgundy red colour; priced at Rs 49,900

The South Korean giant had launched the Galaxy S8 series in April 2017 as its flagship smartphones. Initially, the handsets were available in Maple Gold and Midnight Black colour variants and, later in July, the company unveiled an Orchid Grey coloured model of the Galaxy S8.

Notably, the Burgundy Red variant of Samsung Galaxy S8 will be available for sale starting from April 13. Meanwhile, Galaxy S8+ 64GB model is priced at Rs. 53,990, while the 128GB storage option costs Rs. 64,900.

To recall some of the specifications, the Galaxy S8 is powered by the Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC and it had started receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update earlier this year. The Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch QHD+ (1440×2960 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity Display, which is a dual-edge curved display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, complete with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The smartphone comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage that’s expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration.

The Galaxy S8 features a 12-megapixel ‘Dual Pixel’ rear cameras with optical image stabilisation and a f/1.7 aperture. On the front, the smartphone bears an 8-megapixel front camera with autofocus, and also bear an f/1.7 aperture. The handset is fuelled by a 3000mAh battery, and supports wireless charging and fast charging.

Samsung to recall Galaxy Note 7 phones after explosion claims: Report

Samsung will issue a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone as soon as this weekend after its investigation on explosion claims found batteries were at fault, according to South Korea's Yonhap News.

Samsung Electronics declined to comment on the report today, but said it was conducting the inspection with its partners, it said.

"We will share the findings as soon as possible. Samsung is fully committed to providing the highest quality products to our consumers," the company said in a statement.

Shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone were delayed in South Korea this week for extra quality control testing. The move came after reports that batteries in some of the jumbo smartphones exploded while they were being charged.
