Samsung Electronics unveils Galaxy Note 9, upgraded watch, home speaker

Samsung's latest device enters the ring at a time of slowing smartphone demand globally and a disappointing performance by its cousin, the Galaxy S9.

samsung

Technology News: The 6.4-inch screen Note 9 will start at $999.99 and max out at $1,249.99 — becoming, at about $100 above the iPhone X’s upper limit, one of the world’s most expensive consumer phones. It looks similar to last year’s 6.3-inch Note 8 but sports a revamped Bluetooth stylus — a longtime selling point of the Note series — as well as an upgraded camera that takes sharper photos than the S9 released earlier this year.

A new stylus called the S Pen is this year’s highlight upgrade. It will let users remotely control the Samsung Galaxy Note 9’s camera and switch between slides in a presentation, the company said. It’ll also allow more accurate writing and drawing on the phone’s screen. The Note 9’s camera upgrade is on par with the one given to the S9 in March, adding enhanced colors and exposure. It also has a relocated fingerprint scanner on the back but not one built into the screen, something the company has said it’s developing.

At the New York event, Samsung also introduced a new Samsung Galaxy Watch that competes with a similar product from Apple. The redesigned smartwatch has a circular screen, is water-resistant, and can connect to LTE cellular networks, the company said. It has improved battery life over previous Samsung watch models, and will be compatible with a new charger that can simultaneously charge smartphones and the watch.

The gadget will feature revamped health software that works with the heart-rate sensor. It has new tracking functionality for workouts and auto-detection for when a person begins a run, for example. It also has sleep tracking, providing detail into both hours and quality of sleep.

Samsung Galaxy J8 Review: Premium midrange device with good battery, camera

The Galaxy J8 is primarily a battery-and-camera-centric smartphone with an average processor capable of handling only day-to-day tasks with ease.

j8

Technology News: The latest in its line-up is the Galaxy J8 smartphone, a modern day smartphone with a great build, big super AMOLED screen, dual rear cameras and powerful battery. The Galaxy J8 seems to be a heavy contender in midrange smartphone segment, at least in terms of specifications and features. However, does it perform equally well in real life scenarios? Let’s find out:

Design and Build Quality: In the front, the phone sports a 6-inch (18.5:9 aspect ratio) super AMOLED screen of HD+ resolution. The screen is touted as an infinity screen, which is a fancy name mostly used for curved screens with no bezels on two sides found in Samsung's premium devices. But in reality, this phone has bezels around the screen. These bezels are relatively slim, and therefore add to the overall design quotient while providing an immersive viewing experience.

Samsung Galaxy J8

On the back, there is a dual camera set-up placed vertically in the middle, along with an LED flash and a fingerprint sensor. The power button is on the right side of the frame, whereas the volume rocker keys are on the left side. At the bottom, there is a micro-USB charging port, along with the 3.5mm audio output port.

Display: The Galaxy J8 6-inch super AMOLED screen is bright, and works well under direct sunlight or bright streetlights. However, the screen resolution is 1480 x 720 pixels, i.e. HD+, making the screen look pixelated at times. The 6-inch panel looks vivid and has saturated colours, which looks great while watching multimedia content or playing games.

Battery: With a 3,500 mAh battery, the phone manages to go for more than a day on normal usage. That is due to an HD+ resolution screen and power-efficient Qualcomm processor. Even with heavy usage and active internet connection all the time, the phone easily sails through one full day.

Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro price slashed on Amazon: Know price, specs, features

Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro was launched in India exclusively on e-commerce portal Amazon India at Rs 27,990; the smartphone is now retailing at Rs 21,990. Check Samsung C7 Pro specifications and features.

Galaxy C7 Pro.jpg

Technology News : Samsung has reduced the price of its midrange smartphone Galaxy C7 Pro, launched last year in India at Rs 27,990, exclusively on Amazon India. The smartphone is now retailing at Rs 21,990 on the e-commerce portal.

The Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro is the younger sibling of the Galaxy C9 Pro, another midrange flagship smartphone. The camera-centric smartphone sports midrange specifications and features. Being a Galaxy C-series device, it aimed at the value-for-money proposition. However, priced under Rs 30,000, the phone rivals the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5 – both sporting top-notch innards and considered premium flagships.

Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro Specifications: Talking of specifications, the Galaxy C7 Pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 system-on-chip (SoC), which is an octa-core processor with a maximum frequency of 2.2GHz. The processor is no powerhouse. However, it is not too bad, given that the Galaxy C7 Pro is a mid-range device with high ambitions; the processor is good for day-to-day tasks and still holds some power to process a few heavy-duty jobs.

The Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro offers 64 GB of internal memory and 4 GB of RAM. And, if you find 64 GB of internal memory less for your data, there is also the option of extending the memory to up to 256 GB using a microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro Design: In terms of design, The Galaxy C7 Pro features a metallic body, with a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass that covers almost the entire front. On the front, the side bezels around the display are almost negligible, but the top and bottom bezels are too big – even odd. The huge top and bottom bezels do bring down the overall design quotient of the device.
On the back, the Galaxy C7 Pro sports a primary camera module assisted with dual-tone flash, and the ‘Samsung’ label in the middle of the smartphone. Interesting to note on the back of the device is how the company has worked on the antenna lines to integrate them in the design, making them part of the overall aesthetics. The camera rim protrudes from the body but does not damage the design tone of the handset.

After Note 7 fiasco, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge explodes in US: Report

9518707
After the Note 7 fiasco, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge owner in the US has claimed that the device which he received as a replacement for the Note 7 exploded while charging.
According to the PhoneArena website, the person went to a popular US wireless carrier's store with a damaged Samsung Galaxy S7 edge -- the highest-selling device from the South Korean tech giant.
The customer claimed he received the unit two weeks ago after turning in his replacement Note 7 smartphone (version 2 with the "safe" battery).
"According to the owner, it was charging overnight using the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) charger," the report added.
Last month, a construction worker in Ohio sued Samsung after his Galaxy S7 edge exploded.
"The victim suffered second and third degree burns and had to go through painful skin grafts," PhoneArena reported.
Three US customers from different states -- NevadaPennsylvania and California - have already complained about the fire-prone Note 7 devices and may go for a class-action lawsuit against Samsung.

Indian smartphone sales to double by 2020: Report

1455650508-8575
Smartphone sales in India will double to 200 million a year by 2020 but they will be less than half the number sold in China, according to Euromonitor International.
The US smartphone market will shrink in the coming years, letting India overtake it in 2018. India will become the world’s second largest smartphone market by value in 2019.
India’s smartphone sales will touch 231.5 million in 2021, up from from 102.4 million in 2016. Sales in the US will shrink to 127.3 million from 147.9 million this year and Chinese sales will grow marginally from 440.3 million in 2016 to 460.4 million in 2021.
Most handsets sold in China and the US now are repeat purchases, unlike in India where sales are driven by buyers switching from feature phones to smartphones. Most handset makers, including market leader Samsung, have launched cheap smartphones in India to tap this segment.
“India and Indonesia provide untapped opportunity for smartphones due to the huge pool of feature-phone upgrades,” said Wee Teck Loo, head of consumer electronics at read more..

Samsung to recall Galaxy Note 7 phones after explosion claims: Report

Samsung Galaxy Note 7
Samsung will issue a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone as soon as this weekend after its investigation on explosion claims found batteries were at fault, according to South Korea's Yonhap News.
Samsung Electronics declined to comment on the report today, but said it was conducting the inspection with its partners, it said.
"We will share the findings as soon as possible. Samsung is fully committed to providing the highest quality products to our consumers," the company said in a statement.
Shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone were delayed in South Korea this week for extra quality control testing. The move came after reports that batteries in some of the jumbo smartphones exploded while they were being charged.
Samsung launched the latest version of the Note series just two weeks ago. Citing an unnamed company official, Yonhap said Samsung's investigation found that faulty batteries caused the phone to catch fire. The number of the Galaxy Note 7 phones with a faulty battery accounts for "less than 0.1 per cent" of the products in the market and Samsung is discussing how to resolve the read more..
