China tries to indoctrinate 12 million Muslims through forced labor

China has defied an international outcry against the vast internment program in Xinjiang, which holds Muslims and forces them to renounce religious piety and pledge loyalty to the party.

China
International News: Muslim inmates from internment camps in far western China hunched over sewing machines, in row after row. They were among hundreds of thousands who had been detained and spent month after month renouncing their religious convictions. Now the government was showing them on television as models of repentance, earning good pay — and political salvation — as factory workers.

China’s ruling Communist Party has said in a surge of upbeat propaganda that a sprawling network of camps in the Xinjiang region is providing job training and putting detainees on production lines for their own good, offering an escape from poverty, backwardness and the temptations of radical Islam.

But mounting evidence suggests a system of forced labor is emerging from the camps, a development likely to intensify international condemnation of China’s drastic efforts to control and indoctrinate a Muslim ethnic minority population of more than 12 million in Xinjiang.

Accounts from the region, satellite images and previously unreported official documents indicate that growing numbers of detainees are being sent to new factories, built inside or near the camps, where inmates have little choice but to accept jobs and follow orders.

Saudi Arabia slams US senate vote on Yemen war, Jamal Khashoggi murder as 'interference'

The Senate approved a resolution condemning Khashoggi's murder and calling Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, "responsible" for it

Jamal Khashoggi Case
International News: Saudi Arabia has rejected as "interference" a US Senate resolution to end American military support for a Riyadh-led war in Yemen, and another holding its crown prince responsible for the murder of critic Jamal Khashoggi.

"The kingdom condemns the latest position of the US Senate that was based on unsubstantiated allegations and rejects the blatant interference in its internal affairs," the foreign ministry said in a statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency.

Though largely symbolic, the US Senate vote on Thursday dealt a fresh warning to President Donald Trump, who has staunchly backed the Saudi regime despite global uproar over the Yemen conflict and the murder of journalist Khashoggi.

On the Yemen measure, which more broadly attacks the president's prerogative to launch military action, 49 Democrats or their allies voted in favor, along with seven Republicans, while another three Republicans abstained.

The Senate also approved a resolution condemning Khashoggi's murder and calling Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, "responsible" for it.

Hockey World Cup 2018 Final: Belgium beat Netherlands in shootout to win the title

Australia crushed England 8-1 to win Bronze medal in Odisha World Cup 2018.

Hockey World Cup 2018 Final
Hockey World Cup 2018: A gritty Belgium defeated former champions the Netherlands in sudden death in a thrilling summit clash to win their maiden men's hockey World Cup title at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Olympic silver medallist Belgium created history by eking out a 3-2 win in the penalty shoot-out after the final match of the game's showpiece event ended in a goalless draw.

It was a great day for Belgium hockey as the country registered its second biggest international title after the Olympics silver in Rio in 2016. In the last edition of the World Cup at The Hague in Netherlands, Belgium had finished fifth.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, failed to match Pakistan's record of a fourth world title for the second consecutive edition. The Dutch had finished runners-up to Australia four years ago in front of their home crowd. They last won a World Cup title way back in 1998 in Utrecht. Incidentally, it was the Netherlands' second consecutive match that went to shoot-out in the tournament after their victory over Australia in the semi-finals on Saturday.

In Sunday's shoot-out, Belgium goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch outmatched his Dutch counterpart Pirmin Blaak by making four saves to hand his side their maiden World Cup title. There was hardly anything to separate the two sides in the shoot-out as they were levelled 2-2 after five tries. While Jeroen Hertzberger and Jonas de Geus scored for Netherlands, Florent van Aubel and Victor Wegnez were on target for Belgium. However, the shoot-out was not without drama as Belgium needed Arthur de Sloover to score from their fifth and last attempt to win the game and he did so, sending the Red Lions bench into wild celebrations.

But the Dutch goalkeeper asked for a referral for a foot and the goal was later withdrawn after TV replays showed the ball indeed touch De Sloover's feet while he was pushing it into the net past Blaak. The reversal meant that the match went into sudden death and Van Aubel was given the responsibility by Belgium to take the first opportunity and he duly converted it.

Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray
Entertainment News: India's Nehal Chudasama failed to make it to the Top 20 of the Miss Universe 2018 pageant, where Catriona Elisa Gray from Philippines pipped 93 contestants from around the world to emerge the winner -- as chosen by an all-women jury.

India had pinned high hopes on Nehal, 22, to end a long drought for the country at the pageant as Lara Dutta had last brought back the crown in 2000.

But South Africa's Tamaryn Green, a medical student, and Venezuela's Sthefany Guterrez, studying to be a lawyer, secured the first runner-up and second runner-up spots at the gala ceremony, where Spain's Angela Ponce made history as the first transgender woman to contend for the title of Miss Universe.

Hosted by Emmy Award-winning Steve Harvey, the show here on Sunday saw Gray taking an ecstatic first walk as Miss Universe in a dazzling red gown with a thigh-high slit. She was crowned by Miss Universe 2017 Demi Leigh Nel-Peters, who comes from South Africa.

Gray holds a Master Certificate in Music Theory. An adventure junkie, she is an HIV/AIDS advocate and volunteers as a Teacher's Assistant to the students at an NGO according to the official Miss Universe website.

Rajasthan Election Final Results 2018

Rajasthan Assembly Election 2018: Counting of votes will begin shortly. Stay with us for LIVE updates on Rajasthan election result

Rajasthan Assembly Election 2018: Counting of votes has begun in Rajasthan. As exit polls predicted, Congress has taken early lead in the desert-state. Exit polls said Congress would defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), throwing out incumbent Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s government.

A party needs 101 seats in the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly, but election in one seat was rescheduled after a candidate died. The BJP had won 163 seats in the 2013 Rajasthan Assembly elections and secured a vote share of 46.03%, a jump of about eight percentage points over 2008. The Congress had bagged 21 seats with a vote share of 34.27%, a fall of two percentage points.

Rajasthan has a record of not returning any party to power since 1998 and it flip-flops between the BJP and Congress.

The Congress is contesting on 195 seats and has given five seats to its allies — two each to the Loktantrik Janata Dal and the Rashtriya Lok Dal, and one to the Nationalist Congress Party.

The BJP is contesting in all 200 seats on its own.

Madhya Pradesh Election Final Results 2018

Madhya Pradesh election result 2018 will be declared today. Exit polls show a neck-and-neck fight between the BJP and Congress. Track LIVE updates on Assembly election vote counting

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election 2018: Counting of votes has begun in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, where exit polls predict the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are locked in a tight contest. In both the states, early trends reveal stiff competition between the two national parties.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has ruled the state since 2003, seeking to retain the state under Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who has held the post since 2005. Chhattisgarh recorded a 76.60 per cent voter turnout when elections were held on November 12 and 20 to elect a new 90-member Assembly.

Madhya Pradesh registered a voter turnout of around 75% in the November 28 Assembly polls. The state has a 230-seat Assembly, where the majority mark is 116. The BJP contested on all 230 seats, the Congress fought on 229, leaving one to its ally, the Loktantrik Janata Dal.

The BSP and the Samajwadi Party (SP), which has allied with the Gondwana Gantantra Party, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are the other players to watch out for as election results come. The BSP has fielded 227 candidates, while SP and AAP have fielded 51 and 208 candidates.
